JUPITER, Fla. -- With Emilio Bonifacio solidifying the third-base job, Dallas McPherson became expendable.

After the Marlins lost, 9-2, to the Mets on Tuesday night, the Marlins announced that McPherson has been released. In other moves, the club also reassigned to Minor League camp outfielder Mike Ryan, outfielder Alejandro De Aza and lefty reliever John Koronka.

McPherson, 28, was out of options. The team had been exploring trade options for the left-handed hitter, who led all of Minor League baseball with 42 home runs last year.

In 16 Grapefruit League games, McPherson had 46 at-bats, and he hit .239 with one home run and seven RBIs. Arbitration-eligible, McPherson was signed to a one-year, $500,000 contract.

The Marlins continue to be in the market for a left-handed bat off the bench. A possible option could be Geoff Jenkins, who was released by the Phillies on Tuesday.

Bonifacio has been a standout in Spring Training, and he has solidified the third-base job. Jorge Cantu will move from third base to first base, and Wes Helms will back up at either position.
