MIAMI -- Hanley Ramirez's RBI rampage continues. The Marlins shortstop dropped a two-run double in the third inning off Washington's Jordan Zimmermann, extending his club-record string with at least one RBI to 10 consecutive games.
Ramirez's RBI run is the longest of any player in the big leagues this season. Minnesota's Joe Mauer had a stretch of nine straight from May 7-16.
"I think I've just been concentrating more in the games, and I think I've cut my swing down some with runners in scoring position," Ramirez said. "Those are the keys."
The string started with a two-run homer against the Yankees on June 21.
In the lead to being named the National League's starting shortstop at the All-Star Game, Ramirez now has 24 RBIs over the 10 games. The last player with a string of at least 10 games was Garret Anderson in 2007. Anderson had 12 that year, driving in 22 total runs.
Previously, the Marlins' record was eight, set by five players. Jorge Cantu had a stretch of eight from Sept. 9-19, 2008.
According to the Elias Sports Bureau, Ramirez is the first National League shortstop to have a string of 10 straight games with an RBI. The research goes back to 1920, the first year the RBI became an official statistic.
"That means we're getting on base in front of him and creating opportunities for him to get those RBIs," Marlins manager Fredi Gonzalez said.
