MIAMI -- Chris Coghlan's rookie baseball card is gaining value. The National League Rookie of Year on Wednesday was named to the Topps Major League Rookie All-Star Team.
It's yet another impressive distinction for the Marlins' 24-year-old left fielder, who recently was selected by the Baseball Writers' Association of America as the NL Rookie of the Year.
Topps started its All-Star rookie team in 1959, with Willie McCovey being the first of 16 future Hall of Famers picked to the squad.
Promoted from Triple-A New Orleans on May 8, Coghlan solidified the Marlins' leadoff spot, and the left-handed-hitting outfielder batted .321 with nine home runs, 47 RBIs and 84 runs scored in 128 games.
Coghlan finished sixth in the NL in batting average and his 113 hits after the All-Star break were the most in the Major Leagues.
Also picked to the Topps Rookie All-Star Team were: Giants first baseman Travis Ishikawa, White Sox second baseman Chris Getz, White Sox third baseman Gordon Beckham, Rangers shortstop Elvis Andrus, Pirates outfielder Andrew McCutchen, Orioles outfielder Nolan Reimold and Mets catcher Omir Santons.
The pitchers on the Topps team are Braves right-hander Tommy Hanson and Phillies lefty J.A. Happ.
Coghlan is the third Marlin to be named Rookie of the Year by the BBWAA, joining Dontrelle Willis (2003) and Hanley Ramirez (2006).
The Rookie All-Stars will each have a trophy on their 2010 trading card in Topps Baseball. Series 1 is due out in late January.
