Florida's Miguel Cabrera named National League Pepsi Rookie of the Month for September
Miguel Cabrera of the Florida Marlins, who batted .311 with three home runs and 20 RBI in September, was named National League Pepsi Rookie of the Month for September.
In 25 games played, Cabrera was 28-for-90 with nine doubles and 12 runs scored. He led all NL rookies in doubles and RBI. Since making his Major League debut on June 20, Cabrera finished the season with a .268 average, 12 homers and 62 RBI in 87 games.
Other rookies receiving votes were Marlon Byrd (.324, 34 hits, 23 runs) of the Phillies; Cincinnati's Ryan Freel (.306, 2 HR, 7 RBI); Scott Podsednik (.291, 2 HR, 13 RBI) of the Brewers; Horacio Ramirez (3-0, 2.41 ERA) of the Braves; Luis Ayala (2-0, 1.69 ERA) of the Expos; Brandon Webb (2-1, 3.81 ERA) of the Diamondbacks; and Javier Lopez (1.04 ERA, 12 G) of the Rockies.
Cabrera will receive a specially designed award to commemorate his Pepsi Rookie of the Month performance.
