White Sox announce 2008 player development instructors and staff

CHICAGO -- The Chicago White Sox announced their on-field player development staff for the 2008 season, which includes the addition of six former major-league players to the Sox farm system.
Jose Bautista begins his first season in the White Sox organization as pitching coach with Rookie Bristol. He spent the previous seven seasons in the Kansas City organization in various minor-league assignments, including pitching coach at Class A Burlington in 2007. Bautista made 312 major-league appearances (49 starts) with Baltimore (1988-91), the Cubs (1993-94), San Francisco (1995-96), Detroit (1997) and St. Louis (1997).
Brian Drahman, who made 38 relief appearances for the Sox from 1991-93, begins his first season as pitching coach with Class A Winston-Salem. He served as manager of Sussex in the independent Can-Am League in 2006-07.
Art Kusnyer enters his first season as minor-league bullpen instructor and 20th season overall in the White Sox organization. He served as bullpen coach for the White Sox from 1980-87 and 1997-2007.
Jeff Manto has been named minor-league hitting instructor after serving the previous two seasons as hitting coach with Pittsburgh (2006-07). He played nine seasons in the majors with Cleveland (1990-91, '97-99), Philadelphia (1993), Baltimore (1995), Boston (1996), Seattle (1996), Detroit (1998), the Yankees (1999) and Colorado (2000).
Joe McEwing, who finished sixth in the 1999 National League Rookie of the Year balloting, begins his first season as the hitting coach with Class AAA Charlotte. He hit .251 in 754 major-league games with St. Louis (1998-99), the Mets (2000-04), Kansas City (2005) and Houston (2006). McEwing appeared in 122 games with Class AAA Pawtucket in the Red Sox organization in 2007.
Carlos Subero enters his first season in the White Sox organization as manager of Class AA Birmingham. He spent the 2006-07 seasons as manager of Class A Bakersfield and has gone 381-431 (.469) over seven years in the Texas farm system.
Ernie Young has been named hitting coach with Advanced Rookie Great Falls. He appeared in 288 major-league games with Oakland (1994-97), Kansas City (1998), Arizona (1999), Detroit (2003) and Cleveland (2004). Young played for Charlotte in 2007.
In other changes within the player development staff, Richard Dotson has been named pitching coach at Charlotte, Wes Clements (hitting) and J.R. Perdew (pitching) were added to Birmingham's staff and Robert Sasser will serve as hitting coach at Winston-Salem.
